Review

The film starts off in true Michael Bay style. With big bangs and impressive CG magic, Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen, starts off as it means to go on. It was always going to be a challenge to beat its prequel's wow factor, but Bay manages to succeed, only just, with his first and only sequel since Bad Boys 2. The film boasts 42 robots, including one likening to a Dyson Vacuum cleaner, one that can turn into ball bearings to access high security areas, and two annoying Gremlin-like robots that talk in street slang. By the end of it you fail to remember which robot is which, and also question why they were in the film in the first place. The plot is questionable also. The Decepticons, who were defeated in the first movie, are again intending to crush Earth. For most of the film, we believe that the Fallen refers to this resurgent army. But then we find out it kind of means something else, and the plot transforms itself into something even more boring than it was originally. The only thing that saves the film is the metal-on-metal punch ups with absolute CG perfection. Bay shows his true love of grown up toys and flashy effects. Verdict: With 150 minutes running time, the plot itself is actually quite boring. But the cherry on the cake would certainly be the extended fight scenes and impressive effects. Fans of the original Transformers series may not be best pleased, but it will certainly quench the thirst of action film fans
